Physical Therapy

What is Physical Therapy?

Twin Rivers Physical Therapy offers physical therapy for all types of rehabilitation. Based on the physician’s diagnosis, referral, and patient’s goals, a comprehensive interdisciplinary evaluation is performed and the treatment plan is established. Emphasis is on restoring the patient’s functional independence by combining the functional rehabilitation clinic, the appropriate exercises, and community activities. The Functional Rehabilitation Clinic has a home type setting with a bedroom, living room, bathroom, and kitchen designed to be similar to a standard home. Community activities will be done that are specific to each individual patient’s needs. These may include recreational activities, shopping, or hobbies. Special attention is placed on education of patients, family members, and caregivers about the patient’s diagnosis, individualized needs, expected outcomes, and home programs.

Orthopedic Services

Twin Rivers Physical Therapy offers physical therapy and occupational therapy services for treating all types of orthopedic diagnoses. Based on the physician's diagnosis, referral, and patient's goals, each patient will receive a complete evaluation to establish the treatment plan. The goal is to return the patient to his/her previous activities. Treatments emphasize manual techniques, myofascial release and soft tissue mobilization, as well as the latest technology in modalities and exercise techniques such as Stott Pilates. We offer a full complement of Club Tek resistive exercise machines and aerobic equipment. Patient education is a primary objective. Individualized exercise programs are established with emphasis on home programs which allow the patient to follow through with their treatment both during and after therapy has been discontinued.

Neurological and Rehabilitation Services

Based on the physician's diagnosis, referral, and patient's goals, a comprehensive evaluation is performed and the treatment plan is established. Emphasis is on restoring the patient's functional independence by combining the appropriate exercises, the functional rehabilitation clinic, and community activities. The functional rehabilitation clinic has a home type setting with a bedroom, living room, bathroom, and kitchen which are designed to be similar to a standard home. Community activities will be done with the patient specific to their needs, whether recreational activities, shopping, or hobbies. Special attention is placed on education of patients, family members, and caregivers about their diagnosis and home programs.

Pediatric Services

Twin Rivers Physical Therapy offers physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy services to treat a wide range of pediatric diagnoses. An evaluation will be done to meet the specific needs of each child based on the physician's referral, diagnosis, and caregivers goals. TRPT has a special treatment area designed for pediatric needs. This separate room has a viewing window for caregivers to observe treatment sessions and is filled with age specific equipment for individualized treatment. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to participate in the child's treatment, or in therapy and at home. Specific home activities are given that compliment the child's current therapy. Caregivers will be educated about the child's diagnosis, individualized needs, and expected outcomes of treatment.

Occupational Therapy

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy bases treatment on the use of a person's daily activities, such as planning and fixing dinner, participating in a favorite leisure activity, and basic functions such as turning a doorknob or getting dressed, to achieve functional goals. In conjunction with the use of daily living activities, the latest treatment techniques, exercise, and patient education will help a person reach the highest level of independence in normal activities. Occupational therapy provides services to patients with all types of disorders, whether orthopedic or neurological, for geriatric, adult, and pediatric populations. Treatment is provided based on the physician's diagnosis, referral, and patient's goals following a comprehensive evaluation.

Neurological and Rehabilitation Services

Emphasis is on restoring the patient's functional independence by combining the appropriate exercises,  using the functional rehabilitation clinic for retraining in performance of daily tasks and performing community activities. Special training in the use of adaptive equipment, techniques to improve cognition and visual deficits, and home safety/fall prevention training is also available.

Orthopedic

The goal in orthopedic therapy is to return the patient to all previous activities. Treatments emphasize use of daily tasks, manual techniques, myofascial release, exercise techniques, and the latest technology in modalities.

Hand Therapy

Our certified hand therapist will provide comprehensive evaluation and establish an appropriate treatment plan for any problem relative to the upper extremity. This type of treatment focuses on managing wounds, scars, swelling, pain, decreased flexibility and strength through the use of manual techniques, exercise, education, modalities, splinting and daily tasks.

Splinting

Occupational Therapy provides appropriate and functional splints for pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations. Custom splinting for prevention or correction of injury is available for a variety of situations such as arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, fractures, tendonitis, Cerebral palsy and stroke.

Pediatric

Occupational therapy services focus on assisting children achieve age-appropriate self help, educational, play, and leisure skills. Emphasis in pediatric therapy is on appropriate developmental activities for each child to minimize effects of disease, injury, congenital deficit, disability, or developmental delay. Caregiver education is provided about the diagnosis, individualized needs, and expected outcomes of treatment.

Speech Therapy

What is Speech Therapy?

Speech Therapy bases treatment on the patients abilities and desires. An evaluation of the patient's current level of understanding and interpretation is made and the goals of the patient are utilized to provide effective treatment. Emphasis is on restoring the patient's functional independence by expanding their knowledge of language and providing them with a foundation for learning.

Special Services

Sympathetic Therapy System (STS)

The STS is the newest treatment available for chronic pain. STS provides safe symptomatic relief for patients suffering from chronic intractable pain. It is recommended that the patient receives clinical treatments 5 days a week for 2-3 weeks. If the patient shows measurable relief, a home unit may be prescribed by the physician.

Temporal Mandibular Dysfunction (TMD)

Physcial Therapy services are available for all TMD related diagnosis including neck, jaw, head, and face. Therapy services include TMJ education, modalities, and manual therapy. The patient is given an individualized program to manage his/her condition independently after discharge.

Stay Fit Program

In keeping with our philosophy of comprehensive care, we offer an independent exercise program which patients can participate in following discharge from their formal therapy program. Information about the machines available in the gym can be found here.
